Community of Metchosin
Within twenty kilometres (twelve miles) of downtown Victoria, Metchosin is a rural community well worth visiting. Tucked away just west of Victoria in the direction of Sooke, with its wide-open spaces and beautiful views of the shoreline and the Olympic Mountains, Metchosin is truly a nature lover's paradise. Many walking and cycling trails wind their way through this area, most notably the Galloping Goose Trail, which was built on the abandoned rail beds and trestles of a former railway. Matheson Lake Park and East Sooke Park are both nearby, and provide the opportunity to explore the natural beauty of the area at no cost. |

Many activities take place in Metchosin, especially during the summer months. Each Sunday morning from mid-May a Farmers Market operates at the Municipal Grounds, offering wonderful fresh produce as well as flowers, home baking, fudge and jams. In July, the Metchosin Sheep Dog Trials take place; truly a sight not to be missed! Many talented potters, carvers, artists and other craftspeople work from Metchosin, and you will often find their studios are open to the public. There is an annual pottery event held in late May at the Metchosin Community Hall, entitled "All Fired Up", where the work of fourteen (or more) versatile potters is available to view and to buy. My-Chosen Cafe, a popular restaurant with visitors and local residents alike, offers a superb selection of menu items, including vegetarian selections. You can even finish up with the best homemade cheesecake you have ever tried! From Metchosin it is easy to enjoy all the attractions of Victoria, while enjoying the peace and tranquility of a pastoral country setting. |
